Reading

Today we read Everyone Loves Elwood.

Spelling and Phonics

This week we will be reviewing all of the vowel sounds we learned this year.

There will not be spelling words for the final week of school. We will be reviewing some of this year's spelling words in class.

Writing and Grammar

We have learned the following grammar concepts this year: capitals, punctuation, complete sentences, nouns, proper nouns, plural nouns, irregular plural nouns, verbs, past tense verbs (-ed), present tense verbs (-ing), irregular verbs, contractions, endings -er and -est, synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, adjectives, compound words, the subject and predicate of a sentence, and pronouns. This week we will be reviewing all the things we have learned so far.

Math

We are beginning our last unit in math. We reviewed fractions, made math predictions, and completed our June calendar.

Home Games

Quarter-Dime-Nickel-Penny Exchange Put 5 quarters, 10 dimes, 8 nickels, and 20 pennies on a plate. Roll two dice. Take as many pennies as dots on the dice. Then exchange pennies for nickels or dimes, so that you have the fewest coins possible. The next person takes a turn and does the same. Continue playing until all the dimes are gone. Whoever has the most dimes, wins.

Flash Card Facts addition facts can be practiced with addition flash cards you can make at home or purchase (I found some in Target for $1). Keep practicing until your child knows the sums in a snap! We should know our fast facts by heart. They are sums to 10, any one digit number + 0, any one digit number +1, and one digit doubles (1+1, 2+2, etc.).

Telling Time practice telling time. Your child needs to learn how to tell time to the nearest 5 minute interval.

Addition Top It take a standard deck of cards and remove the face cards and tens. Place the card in the middle. The first person turns over two cards and adds the two numbers together. The second person turns over two cards and adds the numbers together. The person with the larger sum takes all the cards. If it is equal, each person turns over two more cards and adds them together. Repeat until all cards are gone.

Fact Triangles keep them at home in a bag or envelope. Practice them whenever you have time.

Making Change have your child purchase small items with $1.00. Have them count up from the cost of the item to make change.

Fraction Match use the fraction cards and circle fraction pictures to compare fractions. Deal out the cards. Each person turns over one card, compare the fractions. The person with the smallest fraction wins. Continue to play until one player has all the cards.

Science and Social Studies

For the month of June, we will learn about Flag Day, Father's Day, and famous inventors.
